The growing partnership raises many questions including if the US Congress is still funding the terrorist organization.

Is the U.S. still funding the Taliban?
In April 2023 John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction testified at House Oversight Committee where he said, “Unfortunately, as I sit here today, I cannot assure you we are not now funding the Taliban.”

In December 2023, H.R.6617 was introduced, to require a report on payments provided to the Taliban and congressional review of agreements signed with the Taliban.
