January 20, 2024 | Image source | In a major victory for the Osage Nation of northeastern Oklahoma, a Judge from the U.S. Court of International Trade ordered removal of 84 giant wind turbines. The dismantling includes meteorological towers, underground lines and overhead transmission lines covering over 8,400 acres of tribal land.
The case has lasted over ten years and was won due to the fact that the wind-farm developers never sought or acquired a lease for mineral rights.
“I hope no other tribe has to do what we had to do,” Osage Minerals Council Chairman Everett Walker to Tulsa World in an interview. “This is a win not only for the Osage Minerals Council; this is a win for Indian Country.”
